I think that is it.
Basically what I need is a small vertical pane on the left-hand side of the page and then the rest of the page will be the index page initially until a link / bookmark is clicked which will open in this area.
Now from what I gather it is possible to create a .pdf file from multiple files such as MS Word Documents but is it possible to create an index page and then once all the docs are converted to .pdf have them linked / book marked off the index page.
