The initial access may be fast after you do that, but what about subsequent launches? I'd address this by attempting to find the cause of the delay. It may caused by some interaction with a plug-in or network issue. If it is plug-in related, it may turn out that the particular plug-in is unneccessary (most of the time, at least) and can be safely prevented from loading. I do this for about half of the plug-ins that are installed by default.
As a quick way to tell what the load time is if no plug-ins are loaded, hold down the SHIFT key and launch Acrobat.
